Security

Configure the Maximum Rank setting to prevent accidental over-promotion and protect your group's hierarchy.

The Security settings help you protect your group's rank hierarchy by enforcing limits on ranking actions. The primary feature is the Maximum Rank setting, which prevents members from being promoted beyond a specified rank.

Overview

Security settings provide:

  • Maximum Rank — Set an upper limit on promotions to prevent over-ranking
  • Simple Configuration — One setting to protect your entire workspace
  • Instant Enforcement — Changes take effect immediately for all ranking actions

Maximum Rank

The Maximum Rank setting defines the highest rank that RankGun is allowed to assign through any ranking action (promote, demote, or set rank). Any attempt to rank a member above this threshold is blocked.

Why Use Maximum Rank

  • Prevent accidents — A misclick cannot promote someone to a high-level rank
  • Protect leadership roles — Reserve top ranks for manual assignment through Roblox
  • Limit bot permissions — Ensure automated ranking stays within safe bounds

Configuring Maximum Rank

  1. Navigate to Settings > Security in your workspace
  2. Find the Maximum Rank setting
  3. Select the highest rank that RankGun should be allowed to assign
  4. Click Save

Any ranking action that would set a member's rank above the Maximum Rank will be blocked. This applies to all ranking sources including manual actions, the Ranking Centre, and API calls.

Example

If your group has ranks 1 through 255 and you set the Maximum Rank to 100:

  • Promoting a member from rank 50 to rank 60 is allowed
  • Promoting a member from rank 95 to rank 105 is blocked
  • Setting a member's rank to 150 is blocked
  • Demoting a member from rank 120 to rank 80 is allowed

The Maximum Rank only limits the target rank. Members who already hold a rank above the maximum can still be demoted to a lower rank.

Best Practices

  1. Set the limit below your leadership ranks — Keep senior staff and leadership ranks above the maximum so they cannot be assigned through RankGun
  2. Review periodically — As your group's rank structure changes, update the maximum rank accordingly
  3. Communicate with your team — Make sure your team knows the limit exists so they understand why certain ranking actions may be blocked
